5 of 5 Best way to upgrade the inside of your kitchen cabinets August 21st, 2020
    by Roberta from Midlothian, VA

I am upgrading the wood cabinets in my kitchen. I chose to achieve this project by working from the inside-out. The wood inside of my cabinets was old and dark. I yearned for the clean, white inside of newer cabinets, but I could not afford new cabinets. I removed all the contents of my cabinets and put them aside. I stripped out the old, dated liners and cleaned the inside surfaces with warm water and an appropriate detergent. I inspected the metal pilasters, original to the house. They were darkened and rusty. The clips were difficult to insert. My first thought was to paint the pilasters. But this would have been difficult with the rusty, metal surfaces. And they would need a gloss finish, unlike the satin or flat I had planned to paint on the insides of the cabinets. I asked about pilasters at Lowe's and Home Depot. They didn't carry much and had nothing in the sizes I needed for my project. Getting frustrated, I went to my laptop and Googled "cabinet hardware". Cabinet Parts.com came up. I called the company, and sure enough, they had everything I needed. A person on the phone was knowledgabe and polite. I placed an order for all the pilasters I needed, each in a specific length to replace the originals. I painted the insides of all my cabinets. I used a satin enamel and a soft white color. It took several coats to cover the dark wood, but it was worth it. I installed the new pilasters, following the footprint of the old ones. They looked beautiful--clean and bright and new. They worked perfectly with the clips and shelves. It was the finishing touch!

The drawer pulls are good quality and have a nice finish, but the quality of the long fasteners is very poor. The hardware is made so can be cut easily but the threads are very poor and cross thread easily. I will have to buy better fasteners, I don’t see
