Bought the 12 mm barrel hinges for some fly boxes. They were pretty decent, but not all of them were created equal. Some of them out of the box were quite a bit stiffer and grittier feeling. I used white lightning dry lubricant to loosen them up, seemed to work alright. I recommend investing in a good marking gauge, a quality 12 mm brad point bit and an accurate drill press. Your layout has to be spot-on with these, there's no room for error or adjustment. Over all I was pleased with the purchase, ordering from CabinetParts.com however is another issue. $14 for shipping a tiny package in snail mail is ludicrous, not to mention the tracking number I received from them was for somebody else's order. Needed to replace a damaged hinge as part of a restoration of a 1920's era folding top desk. These hinges were nearly an exact match and of superior quality compared to the originals.

These are great hinges to allow a side or end table top to be hinged and lifted to reveal a storage compartment below where a drawer may normally be. They are not for the person that is in a hurry or not willing to take the time for precision. You are working in the less than .5 mm tolerences for not only the location but depth of bore for the hinge mount. You also should use mm flat bottom bits such as forstner type for best results. They are listed as light duty as well and not built for strength or heavy loads. They can't be beat for what they are designed for though and CabinetParts.com had the best pricing and customer service I could find anywhere.

This is a first try using this hinge and also the first hinge I've used with Shaper Origin to cut the receiving part. Its tiny and I'm not commonly using tiny so can't compare. I like it and I'm interested in using this one again.
